That's exactly the effect I'm after, one problem on my car though is the bonnet release handle sticks out the front through the fins so it'd need a hole in the mesh for that which would look poo, not sure about other models.

I have been told that you can remove bonnet pull from between front grill fins this acts as a secondary catch in case bonnet catch fails

Don't think that's right mate when I pull my bonnet release inside the car it extends the one on the bonnet and you have to pull that up to open it but that may just be on e46's of that year.

easy on the x5 when you pull bonnet catch in car it releases two catches either side of grill.
the one you pull through the fins is only a secondary safty catch to stop bonnet flapping over windscreen if you pull internal catch on motorway.

removed it with two screws

note to self dont pull bonnet catch whilst driving :D

Oh ok I'm pretty sure you have to pull the second catch on the e46 to open the bonnet but to be honest never tried to open it without using the catch so it maybe the same, probably isn't tho <_<
